Thanks to its lightweight recyclable composite body, assembled from vacuum bagged carbon fiber hull and foil elements and plexiglass cover, the DS2 can achieve very high surface speeds and resist underwater pressure while diving.
Underwater, the large canopy and large floor-to-ceiling windows provide increased visibility comparable to that of a helicopter, while maintaining the same maneuverability as an aircraft. The maximum depth will be limited to 50 meters or 6 bar pressure to allow the use of aerospace lightweight thermoplastics, carbon fiber and lightweight aircraft alloys in the structure. The solar spectrum is still able to penetrate, and the pressure does not pose a danger to the structure.
The DS2 is positively buoyant so it will not sink and has ample safety features such as fully redundant vital parameter indicators, sensors and electronics, seat with inflatable vest, spare cylinder, dive mask, perimeter airbags Buoys with emergency signals and SOS position markers with GPS automatically resume function in case of danger.
The DS2 is unique in that it can carry up to 4 passengers and can dive like a submarine to a depth of 50 meters. It is the first vehicle that can also travel on water in hydrofoil mode.
