One of our customers recently shared these application photos with us.
The project involves flexible insulation components used around expansion joints in chemical processing equipment, including hydrogen production furnaces, reforming furnaces and refining furnaces.
And there is a very practical reason for choosing a flexible solution.
Expansion joints are designed to move.
During operation, the metal structure expands and contracts as temperatures change. With a traditional rigid insulation structure, this movement can eventually cause cracking, displacement or damage to the insulation.
A flexible insulation component takes a different approach.
It can move with the equipment, while still providing high-temperature insulation and protection around the expansion area.
For this type of application, the outer fabric is not just a cover.
It needs to be flexible enough for movement, durable enough for the working environment, and suitable for fabrication into complex shapes.
These photos show the finished components made with Suntex fiberglass fabric, from the material itself to the finished flexible structure and its application on the equipment.
